Cocktails for a Cause is Dr. Rebecca Schoonover’s annual fundraiser supporting blindness research and the Scranton Blind Association. The proceeds are donated in honor of her late friend and colleague, Thom Mann.

The 7th Annual Cocktails for a Cause was held on October 22, 2011 at Amici, 1300 Morgan Highway, Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania from 6-9 p.m. A $40 donation entitled guests to samplings from the area’s finest restaurants and open bar, including martinis direct from New York City, Miami and Boston. There was live musical entertainment by Christian Gratz with special guest Ron Schoonover. Guests purchased chances to win lavish raffle baskets.

Proceeds benefit Research to Prevent Blindness, the leading supporter of eye research directed at the prevention, treatment and eradication of all diseases that threaten vision and the Lackawanna Branch of the Pennsylvania Association for the Blind.

Dr. Schoonover donates the proceeds from the event in loving memory of Thomas Mann who was an optician, friend, husband, and father whose passion for helping people will be continued through the advancement of vision research.
